OSCAR VILLALOBOS

He grew up in the Amazonian department of Guaviare, living at the epicenter of violence in Colombia, amidst drug traffickers and nature. He was struck by the war in Colombia from a very young age, and his entire family left San José del Guaviare for Bogotá in 1993 when he was still a child.

The Colombian conflict resulted in their forced migration to the Colombian capital. Later, during his university studies at the Higher Academy of Art of Bogotá, he was inspired by Impressionism and began his career. The artist is known for his “urban landscapes” and depictions of free vegetation. Villalobos portrays traditional scenes of the city that welcomed him through vibrant and contrasting colors. He defines himself as “a painter of reality.” According to art critic Eduardo Serrano, “Villalobos creates a social context that leads the observer to think about the issues of the urban landscape.
